The Social Justice Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday every two months to discuss the needs of the community. After a review of the risk assessment that was requested by the Diocese of all parishes that have a deacon, this committee was founded to address those situations.
This committee has created the Fifth Sunday Fund. This is a second collection on the month's where there is a 5th Sunday. The donations are kept in a special fund that is used to assist members of our parish who have found themselves in an unexpected financial need. We have assisted in mortgage assistance and funeral assistance. We purchase gift cards to help feed families at Thanksgiving and Christmas each year. To apply for assistance, applications are available in the vestibule of the church, Rose Liel Hall and the parish office.
We are currently working on a project called: Michael's Place gathering grounds. Michael's Place is a social interaction ministry, providing a place for our community to network and socialize for a couple hours every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month in the small classroom at Father Meyer Center. This ministry will begin on June 13, 2019. By providing a place to strengthen bonds with our fellow parishioners, we build a stronger community and provide a chance to walk in faith together through our good times and bad. Please keep a watch for the advertising and webpage to follow soon.
